where do the funds go?

It is planned that a major proportion of the money made from coffee trading and direct donations is sent directly to the chosen projects, while other funds could be used to enable British teenagers to visit the project to carry out voluntary work with the children there.

The projects currently supported, or targeted for future assistance, by The Coffee Project are:

  • Luwawa primary school, a rural, government primary school with very basic resources.

  • The provision of food/garden starter packs to famine areas through legitimate local agencies, enabling families to build up their self-sufficeincy by growing their own food.

  • The Christian Heritage School in Lilongwe, an educational project providing high quality education to English National Curriculum standards. Current funding is in the form of sponsorship (£350 per annum supports a single child). The school requires additional funds for new buildings and money to purchase land for the development of a vocational secondary school (approx £7000).
  • KOSI (Kauma Orphans Support Initiative), an orphans project based in an urban slum on the outskirts of Lilongwe, which supports families whose parents have died from AIDS.

Note: If individuals or groups are interested in supporting any of these projects directly through The Coffee Project, feel free to contact us by e-mail.

Why sell coffee? Why not simply raise the money through appeals?

Quite simply the success of appeals has diminished because there are so many of them. So much money has been spent by charities on drawing your attention to their cause that the amount of money going directly to those in need is reduced. How many leaflets drop through your door and go straight in the waste bin?

Why should this be a more successful way of raising money?

Most people have heard of TraidCraft and FairTrade goods. The principle of these organisations is to provide a fair price for goods that will allow producers from developing countries to invest in their own future. The Coffee Project is buying from producers in a similar way, thereby directly benefitting their community.

When you purchase our coffee, however, you will not only be supporting a sustainable economy for the workers, but also be helping us to raise money which will ease the burden for families only wanting the best for their children -- a desire common the world over.

The Coffee Project is a Ltd company, No 4257940, 43 Marchwood Road, Sheffield,S6 5LB. Reg charity No 1093447.
